The S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. Mobile base of operations, place of blah, blah, blah. A soft scowl formed on the former Young Avengers now just Avengers member, Katherine Bishop. She had just stepped inside and already the whole atmosphere of the place was getting to her.
It wasn’t that she had a huge problem with S.H.I.E.L.D., because she didn’t. They did their work, and most of the time they did that work pretty darn well… But sometimes, they just ended up interfering with the Avengers and that’s when things got tough. The group of Avengers at the moment weren’t part of the old team at all. They were new, and hell, some might even say improved. After all, they had witnessed their parents and mentors mistakes and had learned. They had listened to old tales and new ones and taken in everything they could. This group wasn’t about to make the same old mistakes. They were going to do one helluva job.
However, S.H.I.E.L.D. still insisted on being a huge pain in the ass when it came to running certain things. And Kate was going to let them know this. In a calm and collected way. She folded her arms and waited for Steve to appear. She wasn’t about to go searching for him, he had called her here wanting to talk about something.
For the most part, Kate was fine with Steve. At times they could be pretty good friends – they had known each other for quite a while and knew a little about each other. All well and good, but every now and then he seemed to get this stick up the ass and become all prim and proper and protocol.
Kate could only hope that she wasn’t about to receive bad news.
She shivered once and then rolled her eyes, ”Steve, I know you’re there. Come on. I hear we have something to discuss.” She paused, then shivered again, ”And I’m frickin’ freezing, so move it. Please.” She didn’t really feel like saying please, and Steve would know that, but by God she was cold. Hopefully once they’d moved away it’d be to someplace warmer.

Steve was not in a good mood, he had been in meetings and plans with all different departments and now he was probably going to have to go head to head with Kate, not that he didn’t like Kate but he knew that she was not a big fan of SHIELD and neither was he when it was under different rules but this time it was under his and he was going to do things differently, being an avenger himself meant that there was not going to be any big meetings on reporting to SHIELD because of the fact that he was going to be with the avengers so he was not going to report to himself. Also he knew that he could trust the avengers to make a decision without him if he was not there and Kate was likely the best to lead if not for himself. Not that he didn’t think the likes of Laura didn’t have the potential but he knew Kate was not going to just listen to him, she had a brain and would go after him the most more than likely.
He had not been planning on the fact that he was going to see Kate but a SHIELD agent told him that she was on the carrier and he knew that he was going to have to see her, he was not expecting the meeting to be easy but that didn’t mean that he wanted to argue with one of his closest friends if he was being honest. Yet at the same time he had to do his job, if he did not do so then they could replace him and have someone that might not give the avengers as much room as they wanted, him included. When he arrived he heard Kate speak.
“Sorry for having a life outside of the mask,” he said with a grin “ I was busy ok?”

Turning around, Kate came face to face with the man of the moment, and raised an eyebrow as he spoke. She kept up her fake soft frown whilst she said, ”I’ve been freezing here for ages, and what I get is you telling me you’re busy?” She paused then gave a chuckle.
”You so need better excuses! C’mon, you use that all the time. Stop being busy.” Kate grinned, and stepped away from the wall she was standing by to move over to him. ”I suppose you are always busy though. Maybe a rest or to would actually do you good. I get told that all the time anyway, so there must be some kind of truth in it.” She rolled her eyes, keeping up her grin as she folded her arms close to her chest.
She looked about the bustling carrier. ”Well, I guess we need to talk business…” Kate glanced up at Steve. It was slightly annoying that for the most part all they ever did was talk business – heroes, villains, teams… She was good friends with the guy – very close friends, but when they talked about their teams and the correct path to go down they could just never agree. ”All I heard was that S.H.I.E.L.D. or parts of this place anyway wanted the Avengers help on something, and I’m guessing that something is the new villains that have popped up.” The new villains were strange and different. They didn’t seem to be going for the direct ‘attack everything in sight’ that the old villains had. They seemed to sneak about, then suddenly pop up somewhere and create havoc. From little things such as a couple of low class burglaries to outright bank robberies and attempted murders (hopefully there hadn’t been a murder yet, but these villains seemed smart so it was reasonable to think that they had the wits to cover their tracks and hide such things).
