WINNIFRED LILLIE TAM
Name: Winnifred Lillie Tam ~ Goes by the name of Fred
Age: 21
Gender: Female
~~~~~
Codename: She doesn’t have any yet, though she is tempted to go with her grandmothers name of Spieler
Ability:
Fred has inherited her grandmother’s ability to convert sound into her own personal kinetic field, enabling her to fly.
Put simply, when listening to music (any music at all, though she has prefered music and loves things with a beat) she can fly. Depending on the mood the music arises in her and how strong that emotion is plays some part in her ability to control her flight. When the emotion is strong or happy she can fly higher, feeling lighter herself. When the music doesn’t make her feel strongly or is sad, or angry at times, it’s harder to control and she has to will herself up higher costing valuable energy.
The main weakness with this ability is that she can only fly when there is music about – however, that problem is easily solved. She has an ipod. Simple. She carries it with her everywhere and always has it fully charged. In fact, in case that one runs out she has another ipod (older version) that she took of her brother when he didn’t need it any more.
Also, the music doesn’t have to be professional, it can just be someone banging on a wall or even a pot and making some sort of tune or beat. However, if this is the music she is flying to it is harder for her to float up.
One main risk of her ability is that if she is flying high and her music suddenly cuts out for some reason, she no longer has the ability to fly and will fall.
Her grandmother though, has told her that when she, Fred herself, has a particularly happy beat inside of her (meaning a very strong emotion, aka love or a great hate) then the beat will provide the music.
::This Section Is For Everyone::
Status: Neutral
Occupation: Student
Physical Description:
Fred is a little bit short for her age – a fact that annoys her tremendously. She is of average weight as well, mainly due to all her dancing, which keeps her fit and counters the amount of junk food that she eats.
She has long light brown hair, that she loves having long despite protests from her father to cut it short and simple. She never listens to her father though.
Fred likes to dress in simple clothes – nothing expensive, because she knows that she goes out a lot and what’s the point of wearing fancy clothes if you’re just gonna get them dirty or torn. She likes to wear dresses as they allow her freedom of movement when she flies.
Personality:
For the most part, Fred is energetic, kind, enthusiastic, spontaneous and funny. Which is a weird combination of traits to belong to a member of the brotherhood.
Fred was brought up not knowing her mother, who died giving birth to Winnifred. Her father – already father of two – did try his best, but being an actor was never around so for the most part Fred took care of herself and became very independent. She likes to have control over things, though not in an obsessive way. Fred likes having some knowledge of what is going on about her.
At the age of eleven she discovered she was a mutant, and her father couldn’t take the shame. He didn’t understand mutants, or believe there was any good in having a mutant in the family (or mutants in general). This was the weak spot that allowed tales of the brotherhood to convince her to join them.
She moved in with her grandmother, Lillie McGurty – the original Speiler, and it was there that she was taught how to control her abilities. Despite her know hesitance of sharing with others who she really was, her staying at her grandmothers revived the old lady and she became more like her younger self. This in turn caused the little Fred to become energetic, and kind.
But there was always doubt in her mind about who she was and whether humans should be allowed to say harsh things of her kind. This doubt is why she joined the brotherhood, despite being against violence. She values the ideas behind the brotherhood that she was told – which was that mutants shouldn’t be treated as they are, that they need more rights, and that they needed to physically do something about their position as the under-dogs.
Her humor is now fairly sarcastic, and can be sharp – but at times she does revert back to her kind, enthusiastic and eager to please persona.
History:
Winnifred Tam was born on the 7th of June, in her parents large penthouse in New York city. Though the occasion should have been celebrated, Fred’s mother died in child birth and her father was grieved. During the early years of the girls life, her father wasn’t around often – and it fell too her still very young older siblings to look after her.
When she was five, though, her father started laying off on his work and becoming more specific about which roles and shows to star in and therefore was at home more often. During this time, the pair bonded slightly – Fred was an open child, and was good around new people after having being surrounded by her siblings friends frequently. She had a sense of humor that she shared with her father, and for a few years things went fine.
Her father learnt of her interests during these years, and not afraid to spend money, sent her to the best dancing classes that there was. Fred threw herself into dancing. Her school work wasn’t exemplary but she passed everything she did. School never interested her much – but she didn’t want to face her fathers wrath.
Until she reached eleven. One evening, as she was lying on her bed working on some school homework the radio station changed to a song she loved. Singing along she started to dance, a feeling of giddiness and happiness filling her. Closing her eyes she twirled and twirled, not realising that she was dancing on the air now. Her father chose this moment, to come into her room to tell her that the music was too loud and needed to be turned down. And when he entered the room, what did he see? His little girl floating.
Enraged, he shouted at her for hours. Fred could tell he was upset, but despite his questions she couldn’t tell him how she had done that.
Annoyed, her father left their house muttering. The next day, she was thrown out. Her father, was a proud man – always had been, but she hadn’t ever noticed it untilt he day she was kicked out the family home. Distraught, and with no where else to turn, she ran to her grandmothers house. Explaining the situation through tears, Fred had been surprised how understanding her grandmother was – even more surprised to learn then that she was a mutant, just like her grandmother.
Though now hesitant around others, she was happy to learn of her powers from her grandmother. One day, whilst out flying by some roofs, she was startled by a young looking woman – who she found out was Mystique. The woman explained the situation of mutants to her – and didn’t hesitate in telling her the plain truth, something Fred found encouraging as even at thirteen everyone talked to her like a little kid.
Happy to learn there were a lot more mutants out there than the few she had seen on tv and her grandmother, she then agreed to visit the brotherhood a few times, taken in by the womans speech.
Soon, she joined the brotherhood permanently, though never told her grandmother this.
She is still part of the brotherhood today, and living with her grandmother.
